Fair Wages Commission seeks input on minimum wage

The Fair Wages Commission, an independent commission seeking public input into the $15 minimum wage in B.C., is holding a public consultation in Cranbrook at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort & Convention Centre on Dec. 7 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

“I’d like to encourage anyone who earns less than $15-an-hour and employers who will be affected by the new minimum wages to share your views with the Fair Wages Commission by email or in person,” said professor and economist Marjorie Griffin Cohen, chair of the Fair Wages Commission.

“If you’d like to present in person, please send an email with the day and community you would like to attend, so we can provide a specific time for you to present. The Fair Wages Commission would also like to hear from employers and workers who can speak to details of minimum wage rates for farm workers, liquor servers, live-in caregivers, resident caretakers, and live-in camp leaders,” she added.

People are being asked to send an email to [email protected] to schedule a time to present to the commission.

Details about all of the locations, dates and times along with how to make a written submission, are available at: engage.gov.bc.ca/fairwagescommission.
