Fire Hall Kitchen & Tap taking shape

Cranbrook’s newest downtown social establishment continues to be meticulously crafted out of old Fire Hall No. 1.

Construction is in full swing at Cranbrook’s Fire Hall Kitchen & Tap (FHK&T).

Staff are being interviewed, equipment purchased, dishes created, and beers tasted, with the aim for 20 taps to be installed, related owners Jesse Roberts and Fred Williams Jan. 5 during a tour of the heritage building built in 1929.

FHK&T is going to be a family-friendly watering hole with an emphasis on quality pub food and craft beers.

“Take a microbrewery tour across Canada or stay right here with a local favourite, all without leaving your barstool. As our name suggests we are located in Cranbrook’s 90-year-old fire hall. We still have the big truck doors, a fire pole, and the charm and beauty that come with an old brick building,” Roberts said, standing before the still-to-be-constructed second floor patio on the south side of the building that will look out over Rotary Park and the Steeples/Fisher Peak.

“We get both sunrises and sunsets on this deck,” Williams noted.

Along with the upstairs deck, the establishment will feature a street-side patio, taking advantage of the truck doors, which will be replaced with decorative etched glass doors.

While it still looks like a bomb went off inside the building, Williams and Roberts remain hopeful that they will open for business in late spring this year.

Much of the complex work has been completed and now it’s time to conclude the puzzle that will become the Fire Hall Kitchen & Tap, Williams said.

Jesse Roberts said the front entry to the establishment will lead from the side parking lot. The owners also intend to plant trees to tie in with Rotary Park and 10th Avenue S.

To herald the start of a new phase of the re-modelling, which is incorporating as much of the original building, and building materials, as possible, the young company today launched it’s branding phase, including a website which went live at 1 p.m.
