Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services has wrapped up two days of hands-on auto extrication training this week focused on the unique challenges of responding to incidents involving school buses.

Over the two-day session, Randy Schmitz of JRS Safety Services Ltd. led Fire & Emergency Services members through scenario-based training, with a focus on the different construction and access challenges school buses can present during an emergency response.

The training was made possible thanks to School District No. 5 and School District No. 6, which each donated a retired school bus to support this exercise.

The buses had reached the end of their service life, creating a valuable opportunity for firefighters to practice important rescue techniques in realistic conditions.

Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services thanks Public Works, School District No. 5, School District No. 6, Van Horne Towing, and Farbrook Auto Wrecking for helping to make this training possible.

Van Horne Towing helped set up the training scenes with their tow trucks, with Morgan also taking part in the scenarios, while Farbrook Auto Wrecking supplied two minivans.

It is an excellent example of community partners working together to support vital public safety and emergency preparedness.
