JCI Kootenay taking over Spring Honda Fun Run

Now in it’s eighth year the Spring Honda Fun Run is back for another year on Sunday, June 3 at Moir Park, Cranbrook.

With the event’s founding organizers passing it on to local non-profit organization JCI Kootenay, the event will now be known as the “JCI Kootenay Fun Run.”

In 2010, the event started as a way for four friends, Rhiannon Chippett, Tegan Bova, Christie Kennedy and Charlotte Spring, to promote a healthy active lifestyle for the people of Cranbrook while raising money for a cause close to their hearts, that being Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS.

The Fun Run has grown over the years, recently added the popular ‘Colour Run’ to their five kilometre event with great success.

“It was definitely a very memorable journey, the four of us have been through a lot over the years… we have been so excited to see our event grow,” Rhiannon Chippett.

After seven years at the helm, the team would look to pass on the torch, putting a call out last September for groups interested in taking over the Fun Run. JCI Kootenay would express interest and ultimately agree to take on the event.

JCI is a non-profit organization that provides development opportunities empowering young people to create positive change. The organization has over 200,000 members and 5,000 local chapters world-wide.

JCI Kootenay has been active in Cranbrook since 2004. Event Chair and JCI Kootenay member Jordan MacDonald says taking over the Fun Run is a great chance to honour the past and create something even bigger moving forward: “It’s really exciting, its a big event… we’re happy to pick up where they left off and build on what they’ve created.”

JCI Kootenay is also very excited to continue the event’s relationship with the ALS Society of BC, with funds from the event once again going towards the non-profit organization.

While the name of the event has changed, Spring Honda is back again as the headline sponsor for an eighth consecutive year.

“It’s an event which brings community together and promotes health and exercise… we’re really happy that JCI has allowed us to be involved again,” said Dave Spring, owner/general manager of Spring Honda.

Registration is now open for the JCI Kootenay Fun Run.
