June 27 barbecue to support youth programming

The important youth initiative, titled ICE BBQ presented by Denham Ford supported by Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual, is in support of ICE youth programming.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Denham Ford. All proceeds from the event will go towards ICE Youth Programming.

Burgers will be provided by Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual, while Selkirk Beverages will provide the drinks. Both of which will be available by donation.

In addition, there will be exciting silent auction items present at the event. Those include:

  • ICE Suite for one game during the 2018-19 regular season;
  • Team signed ICE jersey;
  • Junior Broadcaster Experience (includes a Kootenay ICE jersey signed by his/ her favourite ICE player, a meet and greet with his/ her favourite ICE player after a select game and the opportunity to join ICE commentator Brant Hilton live on the air during a game);
  • Commemorative 100th anniversary Memorial Cup coin;
  • Full Protection Package courtesy of Denham Ford (valued at $1,650);
  • Gift Basket courtesy of Mr. Mikes (includes Mr. Mikes swag, a $100 gift card and a bottle of white wine).

President and General Manager Matt Cockell and other ICE staff members along with ICE mascots Shivers and L’il Freeze will be in attendance to kick off an early start to the long weekend and raise awareness for ICE Youth Programming.

Last season, the ICE hosted over 4,500 youth via programs such as the ICE Minor Hockey Team of the Game, Classroom of the Game, Student of the Game, Community Group of the Game and many other community initiatives. ICE Youth Programming provides an opportunity for youth groups to attend ICE games and is supported by donated tickets to the ICE. Currently, the ICE don’t have enough donated tickets to meet demand.

“ICE youth programming was an overwhelming success last year,” said Raylin Kirsch, Vice President. “The support we received from businesses, fans and the community via our Donate Your Season Seat program is the driving force behind our ability to engage in the community.”

Kirsch added, “More donated seats are required to meet demand and we are thankful to Denham Ford for their assistance hosting an event to further our efforts engaging youth in the community.”

“Denham Ford is very passionate about sponsoring youth programs in our community,” said Steve Zsillei, Marketing Manager with Denham Ford. “Please come out and show your support!”

The silent auction began on Wednesday, June 20 and will conclude on Thursday, June 28 at 5 p.m.

Bids can be placed by stopping into the ICE Gear Store at Western Financial Place, by calling 250-417-0322, or on the Kootenay ICE Facebook Page.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the auction will go towards ICE Youth Programming.
