Mount Baker WILD vs. Chinook (Lethbridge) COYOTES

The Mount Baker Wild Junior Girls enjoyed a fast start to last weekend’s basketball tournament in Lethbridge.

The team broke out to a 15-10 lead in the first quarter. With energy coming from all the girls the lead grew 29-13 at half. With all cylinders firing especially on defence, their full court press stopped the opposition from scoring and turning the ball over. The girls found themselves up at the end of the third quarter by 20 (43-23). The fourth was much of the same and the girls won the opener against the hometown team 56-36!

Mount Baker WILD vs. Winston Churchill GRIFFINS (Calgary)

The second game started slow but by second quarter the girls started getting their bearings, running and gunning again and ending up 42-28 at halftime. With the girls running away with the game with their outstanding full court press and great outlets for the fast break, they found themselves up 71-45 at the end of 30 minutes. The fourth quarter slowed as they backed off on the press, and worked on their offensive strategies. Wild winning 87-52.

Mount Baker WILD vs. LCI

The girls found themselves in the final against LCI from Lethbridge. Coming out strong they trailed 13-18 in the first. With a couple starters in foul trouble early in the second and LCI hitting 90% of their shots, the Baker girls found themselves down 16-35 at half. The third quarter started strong. The team continued to hard with a no-quit attitude and were still down 29-51 in the third. The girls battled hard in the fourth but couldn’t overcome the 20 point deficit. They came away with heads held high and walked away with a second place finish.

The girls’ next tournament is in Calgary December 16/17 at Bishop Grandin.
