Ka*Kin Nana Drum Group opening PEAK Music Festival
Cranbrook’s ‘PEAK’ Music Festival put on by the Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society will be officially opened by the Ka*Kin Nana Drum Group at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, September 2 at Rotary Park.
The group of seven young drummers representing Ktunaxa communities are all cousins between the ages of 10 and 14. They dance, drum, and will serve Indian tacos and fried bread from their booth during the festival to raise funds towards the development of the group. The two-day live music event is free, and everyone is encouraged to come to Rotary Park and experience their unique cultural presentation.
‘PEAK’fest 22 (September 2-3), will feature another 11 acts over a 16 hour duration.
Following the Ka*Kin Nana Drummers will be The Doggone Brothers, Alderbash, Garuda and the party really gets going when Leather Apron Revival rules the stage starting at 9 p.m.
Come and go as you please on Saturday September 3 when the music returns at noon with Matt Blais, Brass Roots, Tennyson King, Jon Burden and the Bleedin’ Hearts, the popular Split/Shift, and then The Black Diamond Band.
The whole Labour Day weekend celebration rises to new heights with guest headlining act Punch Drunk Cabaret, a multi-award winning, festival favourite that combines an inventive, high energy blend of rockabilly, rock, and swing. Expect an engaging live show of rousing, singalong choruses and dance floor packing rhythms that never fails to make the audience part of the show.

‘PEAK’fest is an opportunity for people of all ages to dance up a storm, relax on the grass, or socialize with their buddies in the Fisher Peak Brewing Co. beer garden.
Cranbrook Arts will feature an art exhibit and fun chair painting activity. Participants can create their design on a wooden chair then take it home as a souvenir. Each chair has been imprinted with the festival’s poster design created by local artist Kya Dubois.
Rocky Mountain Martial Arts will demonstrate Eskrima between some of the music acts and other interesting booths will be there too, like the Key City Theatre.
This musical celebration is a happening like no other in the region, with free access for everyone, enabling a socio-cultural experience through music that fosters a wider understanding of the value of performing arts and its relationship with community.
Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the Government of Canada, Department of Canadian Heritage and the Columbia Basin Trust, along with more than twenty local business partners.
