Karin Penner 2016 Cranbrook Citizen of the Year

Karin Penner has been named the 2016 Cranbrook Citizen of the Year.

The announcement was made at this afternoon’s Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas luncheon.

karin-penner-citizen-of-the-year“This year we had a record eight nominations. Each would be very worthy of being pronounced our citizen of the year. The three judges, working independently, were unanimous in their decision for the 2016 Citizen of the Year,” said Chamber Executive Director David D. Hull.

Karin Penner has been instrumental in promoting and supporting Cranbrook in innumerable ways. From a council liaison working directly with the City of Cranbrook, as a member of the organizing committee that hosted the BC Summer Games and Senior Games, to tirelessly working behind the scenes on initiatives that benefit the lives of our citizens.

“Karin has been a champion of our city for more than 50 years. She is a tireless and dedicated volunteer for the Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Program, influencing and empowering Cranbrook’s young women, who have gone on to be passionate community leaders,” said Hull.

She was also this afternoon honoured as the winning lil plucker in the annual Turkey Drive, raising $17,500 for the Salvation Army and Cranbrook Food Bank. It is the second year in the row she has won that award.

Mrs. Penner will be formally recognized and honoured at the Citizen of the Year banquet January 27.

“It will be a great night celebrating our great citizens, and especially Karin, that make Cranbrook a fantastic community,” Hull said.

Tickets available on the chamber website or by calling the chamber office at 250 426 5914.
