Livable climate evening interesting and positive

Letter to the Editor

Who would expect an evening about climate change to be so interesting and positive?

That is our impression of the event that the East Kootenay chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) co-hosted with the City of Cranbrook ‘Working on Solutions for a Livable Climate’ on Feb. 11 at the College of the Rockies.

Attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to hear about the variety of initiatives that the city is working on regarding climate change, and the excellent dialogue that followed. We were also fortunate to hear from our guest speaker, Laura Sacks, co-lead for CCL in British Columbia. Laura spoke to the current science and a wide range of solutions which are opportunities related to sustainable finance, health, environment that we all benefit from.

We also thank the Green Alliance for hosting an event at Mount Baker Secondary School on Feb. 12, attended by several hundred students.

It is clear from the breadth of questions asked that many of the students are concerned and interested in solutions on this complex issue. Lastly, we thank Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary for the opportunity for Laura to present briefly over breakfast on February 11. We look forward to continued dialogue in our community on collectively working on climate solutions.”
