Man arrested after two separate foot chases

A 21-year-old Cranbrook man remains in custody after two separate foot chases through the streets of Cranbrook yesterday afternoon.

Cranbrook RCMP had been looking for the suspect when an off duty member spotted him near College of the Rockies. When RCMP attended the area the male suspect took off along the fence line and police gave chase. The suspect ran through the Steeples Elementary School yard and even with local residents assisting police, the male was not located, reported Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP.

RCMP later received information that the suspect was in the area between the skatepark and Laurie Middle School. RCMP set up containment in the area and began to move in. The suspect noticed police coming in three directions and after stripping off his shirt he took off toward Anderson Crescent.

Police ran after the male and were once again assisted by the public who advised the man had run toward Victoria Avenue. Information was relayed by members and the suspect was apprehended near the hospital, Forgeron said.

The suspect remains in custody on charges of Criminal Harassment and Assault. He will appear before the courts later today.
