Performing July 27 – Summer Sounds

The Summer Sounds / Dancing in the Park programs are coordinated and run by the Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society volunteers. These community events held at Cranbrook’s Rotary Park every Saturday in July and August, feature live regional performing artists and the occasional touring artist. There’s no admission and everyone is welcome!

July 27 featured performers

6 p.m. Taz McLean  –  Taz McLean’s unique original music will grab your attention. He grew up in the East Kootenay and has been involved with Musical Arts since he was 10-years-old. Immersing himself in the music scene, Taz has established himself as a professional musician on tour around B.C. and Alberta. In 2018 he headlined a sold-out show at the Key City theatre. Taz has a special place in his heart for Cranbrook, home to his family and many of his dearest friends.

7 p.m. Cranbrook Dance Connection  –  A fun, social group and a great place to learn all kinds of partner dances; Salsa, Swing, Waltz, Two Step, Argentine Tango and more. Anyone can come to their Friday Drop-in Dancing which includes a lesson. They co-sponsor Summer Sounds and Dancing in the Park, Saturdays in Cranbrook’s Rotary Park. Make music a distinctive part of your summer.

8 p.m. The Sophistocrats   –  A nostalgic voice amidst minimalist grooves; The Sophistocrats create a thoughtful, expansive tone. Together, their debut EP, was released on March 24, 2018. With distilled melodic hooks and open-book lyricism, they depict a poignant narration to today’s definition of romantic love, self-love and trust. “Sophie sings with a longing in her voice while the band’s jazz-rock accompaniment (including a few refreshing guitar solos) create a thoughtful, expansive tone,” said The Permanent Rain Press.

Since their inception in 2016, The Sophistocrats (pictured above) have built a dedicated local following that has enabled them to play the Sunshine Festival (Vernon), Market Fest (Nelson), the Sam Steele Days (Cranbrook) and the Fisher Peak Winter Ale Series (Cranbrook).

They’ve opened for touring indie bands like Dirty Mountain, Friends of Foes, Living Hour, The Gabriel Palatchi Trio, FKB, Giant Water Bug, Steph MacPherson, Charlie Jacobson and The Racket.

“There is so much incredible music out there, but when I get to know the artist personally, it makes their music resonate with me on a deeper level,” stated Sophie, Canadian Beat Interview.
