The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (BCPFFA) 40th Biennial Convention was recently held in Penticton where members bestowed an honour upon Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services Captain Clayton Murrell, who was killed in an incident at Irishman Creek on Highway 3 Feb. 3, along with his wife Joan MacKinnon.

BCPFFA members unanimously passed a motion to make Capt. Murrell an honourary member.

“By RESOLUTION: The delegates assembled at the 2018 BCPFFA Convention in Penticton; wish to express their gratitude to Brother Clayton Murrell for his many years of dedication and hard work on behalf of the BCPFFA membership and; That these delegates wish to bestow upon Brother Clayton Murrell BCPFFA HONOURARY MEMBERSHIP, in recognition of their gratitude for his selfless work on behalf of his brother and sister fire fighters, throughout British Columbia and the IAFF,” the resolution reads.

This resolution was passed not by a simple “Aye” (as is customary) but by all members of the convention raising to their feet and applauding their intention of vote as well.

“Our local sincerely thanks each and every member of the BCPFFA for this honour bestowed upon our lost brother,” stated Cranbrook Professional Fire Fighters Local 1253 in a social media post.
