Protests generate support for health care workers

Protests against vaccine mandates, among other things Sept. 1 around the province, including in Cranbrook, has prompted calls for the resurrection of the White Hearts Project.

The KGH (Kelowna General Hospital) Foundation started the White Hearts campaign at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to boost the morale of healthcare workers.

Following the Sept. 1 protests, the foundation announced it would restore the campaign to once again try and boost the morale of mostly upset and disappointed healthcare workers.

A local woman contacted e-KNOW today to encourage us to inform people to again embrace the White Hearts Project.

“We are trying to get the word out to get people to put the hearts back in their windows. When we did it before they (health care workers) actually took pictures of some and posted them in the doctor’s lounge because it made them so happy! I feel like it’s such a small gesture but could really have a large impact overall without involving the whole vaccine debate at all,” said Tania Abbey.

“It simply is a show of appreciation and support to all our health care professionals in all areas who are struggling right now.”
