Rotary Club of Cranbrook warms up ICU

East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) is proud to acknowledge the generous donation of $6,160 from Rotary to purchase a blanket warmer for the new ICU.

Something as simple as a warm, soft blanket can be the difference between a difficult time and a pleasant time in the hospital. That blanket can provide comfort. It can ease anxiety caused by surgery or a hospital stay. It can reassure you that you are in the right place and that you are always receiving the best care possible.

EKFH is in a major $1 million fundraising campaign to help equip a new six-bed intensive care unit (ICU) currently under construction at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital located in Cranbrook.

The Foundation has committed to raise these funds which frees up a portion of Ministry of Health and Kootenay East Regional Hospital District funding originally dedicated to the ICU project to now be used to renovate the old ICU area into an enhanced pediatric and maternity/neo-natal unit.

EKFH’s fundraising goal of $1 million will ensure that these essential pieces of medical equipment fill the only Intensive Care Unit in the East Kootenay.

The ICU is traditionally known as the department that treats the sickest of the sick including trauma cases, cardiac and stroke, multi-system failure and more.

This ICU will serve the communities of Golden, Columbia Valley (Radium, Invermere, and Canal Flats), Kimberley, Cranbrook, and Elk Valley (Sparwood, Fernie and Elkford) and the Creston Valley. It is supported by four specialized physicians (internists) and a team of nine specially trained registered nurses.

Every donation has the power to impact lives, and bring hope to patients and families. Generous gifts, both large and small, to the Foundation help save lives and advance the health and well-being of individuals and families throughout our EK region.

Patricia Whalen, Assistant Executive Director at EKFH, “We extend our gratitude and appreciation for the kindness of Rotary.  Its gift will leave an indelible mark on the care of patients for many years to come.”
