Rotary supports Cops for Kids

A donation from the Rotary Club of Cranbrook will keep children in the East Kootenay smiling a little more these days.

Through their ongoing fundraisers, Rotarians were able to allocate $5,000 to Cops for Kids to assist children from the East Kootenay region facing illness, disability, or traumatic crisis.

With over 240 requests from families already this year, this gift will help provide financial assistance for 6 local children travelling to Kelowna General Hospital and their required stay at JoeAnna’s House next door. Without the assistance from groups like the Cranbrook Rotary Club, families would face these costs alone.

For Cops for Kids, it’s a donation that will make a significant impact to families who need it most.

“When families come to Cops for Kids, they’re in a real crisis,” claims Cops for Kids Rider Lisa Barnes.  “So, this donation enables us to be there for families in their time of need. Families can’t plan a crisis, so Cops for Kids will be there when they need us.”

Many know Cops for Kids for its signature 1,000-km cycling fundraiser each September and the Party in the Parking Lot at Tamarack Centre in August, but that need to help is year-round. “Even though our ride has wrapped up for the year, our team of RCMP members are still out in each community serving and assisting families every day. We truly appreciate this donation from the Cranbrook Rotary Club,” summarized Barnes.

For the Rotary Club, it’s a part of their work in the community.

“Through our events and fundraisers we’ve been able to continue fundraising, and now we’ve selected some very deserving organizations to continue helping those in our community,” smiled Rotary President Leanne Jensen.

Funds donated to Cops for Kids support ongoing requests from families who require transportation to medical treatment outside their home community, emergency dental treatment, medication, specialized therapies, learning tools & mobility aids.
