School being closed for safety reasons
Pinewood Elementary School in Cranbrook will be closing for two days this week for safety reasons.
In a Sept. 14 letter to school parents, School District No. 5 Superintendent Lynn Hauptman said the school will be closed tomorrow and Friday (Sept. 15 and 16) “due to a low risk of exposure to hazardous materials.”
Hauptman said the school district has just been informed by environmental consultants that “because of a potential risk of hazardous materials in an electrical room and the gymnasium area, where an HVAC construction project is taking place, the school must be closed for testing and clean-up.”
Hauptman said the school district “is erring on the side of caution as safety is always our first priority.”
Test results are expected tomorrow and parents will be updated.
