Shaugnessy Street now officially Kootenay Street North
City of Cranbrook council Jan. 23 adopted a bylaw to allow the renaming of Shaugnessy Street / 10th Street North and Kootenay Street North to just Kootenay Street North.
The section of road has properties addressed off of both 10th Street North and Kootenay Street North. Canada Post appears to be using mostly Kootenay Street N addresses. However, BC Assessment has 55 premises addressed off Kootenay St N and 9 premises with 10th Street North addresses, outlined a report to council from Curtis Penson of Engineering and Development Services.
“Having this inconsistency is a safety concern and administration issue for first responders, dispatchers, general public, utility companies, government etc.”
City staff will send letters to impacted property owners and notification to internal city departments, RCMP, Fire & Emergency Services, BC Hydro, Fortis, Shaw, Telus, BC Assessment and Canada Post to confirm or alter the addresses as Kootenay Street North, the city staff report noted.
