Smoke Eaters gain revenge on Bucks

Zeth Kindrachuck

The Cranbrook Bucks’ third BC Hockey League (BCHL) regular season game is one to put aside and move on from.

After beating the Trail Smoke Eaters 5-3 on Sunday for their first-ever regular season win, the Bucks came up against a determined opponent in a rematch April 7 at Penticton’s South Okanagan Events Centre, with Trail powering to an 8-3 win.

The Bucks were down 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the game before Tyson Dyck scored his second of the season to narrow the gap. Drake Burgin earned an assist.

However, it was all Smoke Eaters after that, with the Bucks facing a 7-1 hill entering the third period. And then it was 8-1 just 3:46 into the frame.

Cranbrook’s Zeth Kindrachuck, fed by Christian Lowe, scored at 5:28 and Nikolas Sombrowski, with help from Jarrod Smith, closed out the scoring. It was the first goal of the season for both players.

Calgary product Kindrachuck now leads the Bucks in scoring with one goal and three assists in three games.

Nathan Airey and Jay Thomson shared duties in the Bucks’ net.

The Bucks are tied for second in the Penticton Pod with the Smoke Eaters, two points each back of the Penticton Vees.

The Bucks are in action again Friday, April 9 against the Vees. Game time is 8 p.m. Mountain.
