Several Cranbrook citizens were recently recognized for their involvement in this year’s the Sam Steele Days community festival.

The Sam Steele Society volunteer organizers presented Super Sam Supporter Awards and Super Trooper Medallions to a handful of people who have played a key role in the festival’s success.

President Christy Wheeldon accredited five individuals at a brief morning presentation on Tuesday, November 29.

“It takes a collaborative attitude and effort to deliver Cranbrook’s largest festival, Sam Steele Days. While every contributor and participant is valuable, some have gone above and beyond their initial commitment, often in the background and some for many years,” declared Wheeldon.

The following citizens and businesses were celebrated:

SUPER TROOPER – Marc Poirier, Cranbrook Terminal Manager of Manitoulin Transport;

Janice Nicli, Kootenay Communications Ltd.

SUPER SAM SUPPORTER – Brad Turner, Area Manager of Alliance Traffic Group;

SUPER SAM SUPPORTER – Murray Floyd, Owner, Cranbrook Culligan;

SUPER SAM SUPPORTER – Renato Nicli, Owner, Kootenay Communications.

Marc Poirier and Brad Turner attended the event. Frank Sandor, owner of Sandor Rental Equipment Ltd. was unavailable for the presentation. Accepting on behalf of Renato Nicli, owner of Kootenay Communications, was daughter Janice Nicli. Dave Sitko accepted on behalf of Murray Floyd, owner of Cranbrook Culligan.

“We have and always will do, all we can to help the Sam Steele Society and our community year after year. Keep up the great work and THANK YOU for all you guys and gals do,” stated Murray Floyd, when he became aware of the award.

The Kootenay’s number one community festival event continues to prosper because of dedicated people.

The Sam Steele Society remains grateful for its valuable partnerships with major sponsors and admirable relationships with the City of Cranbrook, Regional District of East Kootenay, Heritage Canada and the Columbia Basin Trust, which help with the operational costs and to sustain mainly free entry to activities including the central fairgrounds.

Next year’s festival will honour Canada’s 150 years of confederation just prior to Canada Day, June 16-18. Reliable volunteers and corporate sponsors will be rewarded. More information is on their website www.samsteeledays.org .
