Tourism stakeholders invited to Monday AGM

The Cranbrook Tourism board of directors is inviting Cranbrook tourism stakeholders to attend tomorrow’s (Oct. 16) Annual General Meeting at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort.

The future is now for Cranbrook Tourism as the City of Cranbrook’s application for a three per cent tax on accommodation within the city, through the Municipal and Regional District Tax program, has been formally approved. The tax will take effect on January 1, 2018.

The province will levy the tax on all hotel and motel room stays in the city, along with bed and breakfast establishments with four or more rooms, on behalf of the city. Those tax dollars collected – projected to be approximately $450,000 per year, will in turn be provided to Cranbrook Tourism in order to undertake a comprehensive tourism marketing campaign for Cranbrook.

With that in mind, Cranbrook Tourism is eager to share an update and to get more businesses and individuals involved in helping boost the city’s tourism industry.

Starting at 1 p.m., the one-hour meeting will: further educate you about the launch of Cranbrook Tourism; what does the coming Destination Marking Organization mean for your business; how can you be involved; provide additional insights on digital and social media – tips and tricks you can apply to your business, Cranbrook Tourism outlined.
