Elk Valley included in Extreme Cold Warning

The extreme cold warning issued by Environment Canada for the Kootenay National Park area last night has today been extended to the Elk Valley.

“A period of very cold wind chills is expected. With an Arctic airmass over interior B.C., expect extreme cold wind chill values of near minus 35 during the late overnight and early morning hours through Thursday,” Environment Canada stated.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

While the other areas of the region are not including in the warning, temperatures are expected to drop into the minus 20s.
