Fire reported in Koocanusa Village

BC Wildfire Service today (August 17) reports a small fire in the Koocanusa Village subdivision, north of Newgate.

The suspected person-caused fire, estimated to be .01 hectare, is alongside Koocanusa Lake Drive on the west side of the lake, according to BC Wildfire Service.

Meanwhile, visible across Lake Koocanusa from Koocanusa Village, the Dorr area fire, discovered August 16, is estimated at .70 ha and is under control. The fire received heavy bombing.

There are two other fires still being reported by BC Wildfire Service in the East Kootenay, the four ha Stirton Road fire near Marysville and the Kiakho Lake fire west of Cranbrook, listed at .60 ha. Both fires, believed to be human-caused, are under control.
