First Cadet Training Centre experience

East Kootenay Air & Army Cadets Home-towner

Air Cadet Dhruv Jethwa spent three weeks of summer break attending Basic Sports and Fitness Course at Vernon Cadet Training Centre (CTC). He says his experience in Vernon was the best part of his summer and is really looking forward to the next training course opportunities. Dhruv is ready to lead fellow cadets in many different physical training activities.

Cadets from across Canada attend a large variety of Basic and Instructor courses that are held across the country. British Columbia has four cadet training centers – Albert Head, Comox, Quadra, and Vernon.

Dhruv is a member of 552 Key City Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron and he is looking forward to the upcoming training year. Within the cadet program he enjoys many things, including the structure and discipline. His favourite activity is the Effective Speaking program. He values the skill of learning how to speak in front of people. In this year’s competition he is striving to earn gold at the Kootenay Regional Competition.

Dhruv has also set a goal for himself to earn three medals and earn the highest rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class. He knows that it is very achievable with hard work and dedication.

Corporal Jethwa feels that the cadet program is very beneficial and encourages all youth aged 12-18 to consider joining cadets. 552 Key City Air Cadets meets at #308-10th Ave South, Cranbrook. Tuesday’s; September to June; 6-9 p.m.

The aim of the National Cadet program is to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, promote physical fitness and stimulate the interest of youth in sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. Canadian youth aged 12 to 18 are encouraged to learn more about the cadet programs in their community. Though the program is military based, there is no obligation to for a cadet to join the forces.

The Cadet Program is a community-based organization that requires the support of dedicated adult leaders to be successful. Adult leaders are needed to train, administer and supervise the youth involved in the Cadet Program. Training, pay and uniforms are provided for those that choose to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) officer.

CIC Officers are not required to deploy overseas or be operational members of the Canadian Armed Forces. They are community youth leaders, making a difference at home.

The skills acquired through training as a CIC Officer are transferable to your regular employment.
