Here are reasons to stay off the highways and roads.

A quick gander at DriveBC provides abundant reasons as to why everyone needs to get off the highways as this winter storm continues to roll over the East Kootenay.

Rain is now falling in many areas, including in higher elevation locales, covering highways and roads in glare ice.

Highway 95A Kimberley

Freezing rain is reported on Highway 3 from Yahk to the British Columbia and Alberta Border.

Freezing rain is also reported on Highway 95A from Kimberley to the Cranbrook intersection and also to Wasa/Tata Creek Junction.

Highway 95 between Kingsgate and Yahk was just re-opened after being closed for a collision.

Avalanche control is taking place on Highway 3, 30 km west of Creston (Kootenay Pass) for 27 km due to avalanche deposit removal. Estimated time of opening is 11 p.m. PST. Alternate Route available from Nelson to Creston; Highway 3A, Kootenay Lake Ferry, Estimated travel time 2.5 hours.
