Friday Highways Report for the East Kootenay is a snapshot to give the travelling public a glimpse of what they may be heading into or out of this weekend (starting Friday, Jan. 31).

Highway 43

Sparwood to Elkford

Highway 3

Sparwood to B.C. and Alberta Border

Sparwood to Fernie

Winter driving conditions. Slushy with slippery sections. Snowing. Heavy rain.

Fernie to Elko

Winter driving conditions. Slushy with slippery sections. Snowing. Heavy rain. (Pictured above: Highway 3/Morrissey west of Fernie.)

Bridge construction at Lizard Creek Bridge (three km west of Fernie). Work is in Winter Shutdown – temporary detour in effect seven days a week with no expected delays. Slow down and obey all traffic signs.

Highway 93

Radium Hot Springs to Alberta Border

Winter driving conditions.

Construction work at West Boundary of Kootenay National Park (one km north of Radium Hot Springs). Culvert liner installation near Radium Hot Pools. Expect speed reductions to 50 km/h in work zone. No work on long weekends or statutory holidays.

Montana border to Highway 3

Highway 95

Radium Hot Springs to Golden

Road construction work between Ben Hynes Loop and Gacek Rd for 0.8 km (22 to 23 km north of Brisco). Until Friday, Jan 31. Single lane alternating traffic. Expect minor delays.

Curzon Junction to Kingsgate

NOTE:

Highway 1

Avalanche control work is planned between Field and the BC/Alberta Border for 16.2 km. Starting Friday, Jan. 31 at 11 p.m. until Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12:15 a.m. No detour available.

Sticking with the Trans-Canada, there is also a travel advisory in effect between Field and Revelstoke. Motorists should expect lengthy closures beginning Friday evening and ending Saturday evening. Expect significant delays due to elevated avalanche risk.
