Illegal dumping on the rise at Wasa TS

There has been an increase of illegal dumping at Wasa Transfer Station.

Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral E Director Jane Walter reports the activity comes at a cost to all taxpayers.

“Please sort the waste products and place them in the appropriate areas. The RDEK staff have to clean up the garbage and put it in the appropriate area, which takes time from their regular jobs. If you are unsure about what can be taken to the transfer station please call the RDEK and they will let you know,” Walter stated.

“If you see someone dumping something in the wrong spot please do not confront them. If you can write down their license number or take a photo of the plate and what they are dumping and then phone the RDEK (1-888-478-7335) with the information that would be great,” she suggested.

“I believe that none of us want to see the transfer station only open on a few days of the week. So please help us to maintain what we have,” Walter urged.
