Kootenay Wellness Festival returns to Slocan Valley

Expanded programming in the Slocan Valley offers alcohol-free, community-focused wellness experiences

The Kootenay Wellness Festival returns June 12–14, in the Slocan Valley, offering expanded programming focused on mental health, connection, and community resilience. The two-day, alcohol-free gathering brings together participants from across the region to engage in accessible, community-driven wellness experiences.

Formerly known as the Kootenay Yoga Festival, the event has evolved to reflect a broader approach to well-being. While yoga remains a core offering, the festival now features a diverse range of experiences including breathwork, somatic therapy, sound healing, dance, live music, nature-based programming and educational talks on stress, pain science, relationships, and more.

“This festival is about creating spaces where people can reconnect — to themselves, to each other and to the land,” said Amy Heasman, Executive Director of the Kootenay Wellness Festival. “We’re seeing a growing need for environments that support mental health in an alcohol-free, community-oriented way. When people feel connected and supported, it strengthens resilience across the entire region.”

Now entering its sixth year, the festival will feature more than 40 workshops and experiences across multiple stage areas.

New this year is a dedicated Kids Zone, supervised by Pharatree Learning Centre, offering programming for children so caregivers can participate unencumbered. Festival meals will be provided by Talishack Kitchens, with vegan and gluten-free options available throughout the weekend.

Accessibility remains a central focus. The festival offers payment plans, as well as family, elder and low-income community passes to help reduce financial barriers and broaden participation.

“Wellness should not be a luxury,” Heasman said. “We want this gathering to be accessible to families, elders, youth, and anyone seeking connection and support.”

At a time when mental health challenges continue to affect communities across the country, the Kootenay Wellness Festival aims to be a community wellness initiative grounded in the belief that connection fosters resilience.
