Mixed bag of weather forecast for weekend

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting reports it looks like a mixed bag of weather conditions this weekend so please be prepared.

“There is a reasonable chance of heavy, wet snow from Kimberley north extending for about 24 hours off and on. Accumulations don’t look too high at this point but motorists should expect slushy conditions and watch for slippery sections. Temperatures are expected to stay a few degrees on either side of 0C so freeze/melt cycles can be expected,” Mainroad stated in an update.

“We have experienced a few unforecasted snow squalls all over the service area that can develop and dissipate rapidly so motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions – please slow down. These temperatures generally require salt and brine to deal with so expect wildlife on or near road surfaces.”

Motorists are advised to please top up your windshield washer fluid and allow some extra time to get to your destination.  As always, before you drive, please visit www.DriveBC for the current road conditions. Mainroad crews are out patrolling.
