MLA Shypitka calls on NDP to deal with cost of living crisis
Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka today rose in the B.C. Legislature and called on the NDP government to address the cost-of-living crisis.
“When families are so close to losing everything, it is confusing as to why the government continues to accept inflated salaries when their constituents can’t even afford rent,” said Shypitka.
He stressed that as the cost of food, rent and gas continue to skyrocket and many people in this province continue to experience a deepening affordability crisis, British Columbians need relief now.
“Our caucus has proposed multiple inflation-fighting measures, all that the government has refused to adopt — including eliminating the sales tax on used cars under $20,000, a temporary suspension on the gas tax, and lifting import restrictions on cheaper fuel coming in from Alberta,” stated Shypitka.
“There are actions this government can take that will make a difference in people’s lives across British Columbia, yet they don’t.”
