Multi-fatality crash closes Highway 3/95 south of Cranbrook

Cranbrook RCMP, East Kootenay Traffic Services RCMP and emergency services personnel are currently on scene at a fatal collision south of Cranbrook.

At approximately 4:30 p.m.  today, Cranbrook RCMP, East Kootenay Traffic Services and emergency services responded to a fatal collision on Highway 3/95 at Monroe Lake Road, south of Cranbrook.

Information is still coming in and subject to change, however at this time it appears that at least two motorcycles in a group of three ran into the back of a vehicle towing a boat trailer that had slowed down.

At this time two people are confirmed to have died in the collision and it is unknown if the third motorcyclist sustained any injuries.

Highway 3/95 is closed in both directions while police investigate the cause of this crash and there is no detour available.

Motorists can monitor DriveBC.ca for updates regarding the highway closure which is expected to be lengthy and obey the direction of any traffic control personnel.

No further information is available at this time. An update may be provided tomorrow, report RCMP.

Highway 1 is also currently closed between Revelstoke and Golden due to a fatality crash.
