Public comment period extended for funding applications

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is encouraging residents within the region to share their thoughts on the projects being considered for funding through the 2021/2022 Trust Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs.

The RDEK administers the programs on behalf of Columbia Basin Trust and RDEK Acting Corporate Officer Tina Hlushak says summaries of the proposal project descriptions are now available for review and comment.

“We have an online project page that is an excellent source of information for anyone looking to learn more about the programs and the proposals being considered for funding. Public input is one of the most important ways for us to better understand the potential direct benefits of these projects in our communities, and we strongly encourage everyone to share their thoughts.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will not be any in-person meetings this year; however, the online comment form is available on the project page. Those without access to computers can contact the RDEK office to request a list of proposals and get information on how they can provide feedback.

The comment period deadline has been extended to noon on March 23.

Once the public comment period has closed, the RDEK will compile the comments received and share them with the review committees, municipalities and Electoral Area Directors.

Funding recommendations are expected to be provided to the RDEK Board in June.

Columbia Basin Trust supports efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic and environmental well-being and to achieve greater self-sufficiency for present and future generations. To learn more about the Trust visit www.ourtrust.org.
