RDEK seeking election officials

As it begins to prepare for the General Local Elections this fall, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is hoping to hear from residents interested in acting as Election Officials.

“These are important positions that help ensure voters have a smooth and positive experience, and we encourage anyone interested in supporting the election process to apply,” explained RDEK Chief Election Officer Tina Hlushak.

Responsibilities include welcoming and directing voters, answering questions about the voting process, registering eligible voters, and monitoring ballot boxes and voting stations.

“We’re encouraging community members from all backgrounds to consider applying,” said Hlushak. “You do not need to have worked in an election before to take on this role. Full training is provided, and we’re looking for people who are dependable, communicate well, and are ready to support voters throughout election day.”

Application forms, including a detailed list of qualifications, are available on the RDEK’s elections page at www.engage.rdek.bc.ca/elections. Applications are being accepted now through August 14.

There will be a mandatory training session for Election Officials on October 5 in Cranbrook.

The next General Local Elections will be held on Saturday, October 17. Advance Voting opportunities will be held on Wednesday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 13.

Electors in RDEK Electoral Areas A, B, C, E, F and G will cast ballots for Regional District Electoral Area Directors.
