RDEK seeks input on rural housing needs

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is completing a Housing Needs Assessment to better understand housing challenges across its six Electoral Areas.

“We want to gain an understanding of both the current housing needs in our rural areas and what the future needs might be. This project is going to help us build a more complete picture of the housing situation in our communities and provide critical data about where there may be gaps,” said RDEK Board Chair and Electoral Area C Director Rob Gay.

One of the first steps in the process is a survey to help gather the data from residents.

“If you live in a rural area of the RDEK, we are urging you to participate in the Housing Needs Assessment survey,” added Gay.

The survey is open until July 23 and can be found on the Housing Needs Assessment project page at: engage.rdek.bc.ca/housing.

Anyone without a computer can contact the RDEK to arrange for a paper copy.

Public consultation will continue through the summer. In addition to the current survey, there will be interviews and focus groups with various stakeholders around the region, and a separate hospitality and tourism survey.

“The more public involvement we have in this survey and in this project, the better the final report will be, so we are really hoping for strong participation,” said Gay.
