Significant snowfall possible: Mainroad

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is warning motorists about the potential of significant snowfall over the next couple of days in the East Kootenay.
It appears that we can expect some snow flurries area wide over the next 36-48 hours followed by significant snowfall until Thursday, the regional highways contractor noted this evening (Dec. 17).
“This will impact the entire service area, though at this time the highest accumulations are forecasted for the Highway 93/95 corridor from Yahk to Radium Hot Springs. As the system passes, temperatures are forecasted to drop well below the -10C range,” Mainroad reported.

“Holiday travelers and commuters should be prepared for severe winter conditions and leave plenty of extra time. Conditions will change rapidly as the system develops. As always, before you drive, please visit www.drivebc.ca for the current road conditions and allow for some extra time to reach your destination.”
At this time – 7 p.m. Mountain Dec. 17 there is a weather alert for Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.
There is also a weather alert for Highway 1 for Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.
