Snowfall alert for Kootenay Pass
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall alert for Kootenay Pass, with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected, beginning this afternoon and lasting until late tomorrow night (April 15).
Falling freezing levels will accompany an influx of moisture today as a low pressure system crosses the province from northwest to southeast, Environment Canada stated,
Snow will begin as lighter flurries this morning and intensify this afternoon.
Strong winds at times will accompany this system and give limited visibility in blowing snow.
Travel will likely be challenging. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
Allow extra time for travel. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance.
The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca.
