Snowfall on its way across the region

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s meteorological service has forecasted snowfall for most areas in the East Kootenay starting tonight and ending Friday morning (March 4).

Mainroad’s forecast indicates five to eight cm of snowfall overnight, for most areas the East Kootenay.

Slightly more accumulation is expected in the Elk Valley, with up to roughly 10 cm.

“Snowfall is expected to taper off to flurries tomorrow morning. Some areas, especially at higher elevations, may receive roughly five cm additional accumulation throughout the day Friday,” Mainroad stated in a weather alert.

Mainroad crews will continue plowing snow from area highways until the event passes and roadways are cleared and back to normal. You may have observed our equipment proactively applying anti-icing brine to highways and school bus routes today, as well as applying crystal salt to rain-dampened roads.

“This will prevent compact/ice conditions after the forecasted snowfall ends. Please give our road crews a safe distance to work,” Mainroad asks.

Mainroad’s 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted. As always, a reminder to drive to the conditions and check www.drivebc.ca for updates.
