Snowfall with varying intensity forecast for region
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s meteorological service has forecasted snowfall for most areas in the East Kootenay, starting tonight and lasting until tomorrow morning (March 8).
“Our forecast indicates varied amounts of snowfall, depending on particular location within the East Kootenay. In Sparwood, Elkford and Panorama, we are expecting roughly 12 cm overnight. Most other areas are forecasted to receive about six cm overnight,” Mainroad stated in an advisory.
“Snowfall is expected to taper off to flurries tomorrow morning. We expect the flurries to remain over the remainder of the week.”
Mainroad crews will continue plowing snow from area highways until the event passes and roadways are cleared and back to normal. You may have observed our equipment proactively applying anti-icing brine to highways and school bus routes today, as well as applying crystal salt to rain-dampened roads. This will prevent compact/ice conditions after the forecasted snowfall ends.
Please give Mainroad crews a safe distance to work.
Mainroad’s 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted
As always, a reminder to drive to the conditions and check www.drivebc.ca for updates.
