Snowmobilers stranded up the Galbraith rescued

On December 26, Cranbrook RCMP received a report of stranded snowmobilers in a cabin approximately 58 km up the Galbraith Forest Service Road, northeast of Fort Steele.

Due to the recent heavy snow fall only two snowmobilers were able to leave and get help. It was reported by one of the snowmobilers that there were small avalanches in the area near the cabin.

Cranbrook Search and Rescue was activated and they determined the safest way to extract the stranded snowmobilers was by air.

Big Horn Helicopters was contacted and assisted with the safe extraction of all stranded snowmobilers this morning (December 27).

Cranbrook RCMP wish to extend its appreciation to all involved including Cranbrook Search and Rescue and Big Horn Helicopters for the safe extraction of the snowmobilers.
