Tackle the Toad Trail Race returns to Nelson

Tackle the Toad is rewilding Nelson trail running once again! Kicking off Canada Day weekend, on Saturday, June 29, the iconic trail race is once again taking on Toad Mountain.

The day’s events will be held from Morning Mountain Regional Park. With the course designed by local running legend Dave Stevens the race will lead challengers on an epic route through world-class single track trails flanked by ancient Cedar forests, will rise up into the rocky alpine ridge lines above Kootenay Lake before looping round and returning to its starting point.

Expect hard climbs, technical descents and awe-inspiring views. Runners can choose either the 20k or 50k distance, and with an impressive 2500m of vertical to undertake it’s set to be a big mountain race with a small town heart.

This years’ race will be headed by Race Director Emily Ostler, who’s drive to revive the race comes from a personal place with ambitious dreams. “The ultimate runner’s high after completing my first 50km last April is what motivated me to bring this amazing race back to the Kootenays. Running an ultra is a significant challenge and the aim of Tackle the Toad is to make this awesome sport accessible and to keep people moving.”

With support from Nelson Running Club and event partner Nelson Cycle Club, racers are in safe hands. A portion of race fees are donated to the NCC, the caretakers for the trails in the area. Meaning participants can be happy in the knowledge they’re not only blazing the trails but also supporting those who preserve and protect these invaluable areas.

The TTT team are also in search of volunteers, with ambitious community events such as this it can take an army to bring it to fruition. Keen for runners and non-runners alike to join in on the day festivities and support, interest can be registered on their official website or social media channels.
