Was film boycotted by the public school system?

Letter to the Editor

This is a copy of a letter sent to the School District. No. 5 School Board.

My wife and I recently attended a showing of the film Gino-A Child of War, brought in by the Royal Canadian Legion at the Alliance Church in Cranbrook and were absolutely thrilled and amazed at this true story of a small boy rescued by Canadian troops in 1944.

It was truly heart-warming and a testament to our humanity during this awful time in our history.

This was attended by pupils of independent schools in our area, but noticeable in their absence was any attendance by the public schools, this despite invitation to all of them.

This was truly a wholesome and wonderful story that we all can be very proud of and you have to wonder why it seems to have been boycotted by the public school system.

I think with all the negative and bad stuff that our kids are being bombarded with these days, this could go a long way to reinforce what a wonderful country and society we really are.

Perhaps someone from the School Board could look into this?

Neil Matheson,

Cranbrook
