Bullet hole found in BC Hydro transformer

On May 4, BC Hydro reported one of the irrigation transformers located south from Highway 3 and 93 intersection near Elko, had been shot.

The costs to repair the damaged transformer and the ground clean-up is estimated to be close to $10,000, reported Cst. Debra Katerenchuk, Elk Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The person(s) responsible for committing this type of criminal mischief can be charged under Section 430 of the Criminal Code of Canada (C.C.C.). Mischief comes in various forms and is defined by the C.C.C. reads as follows:

Section 430.(1)  Every one commits mischief who willfully

  1. Destroys or damages property;
  2. Renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or ineffective;
  3. Obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property; or
  4. Obstructs, interrupts or interferes with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

The penalty depends on the circumstance(s) of the case.

A similar incident happened in June of last year.
