Convictions in bighorn killings case

The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) Nov. 21 reported that two hunters (unnamed) have been convicted of a series of Wildlife Act offences for the death of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep at an East Kootenay mine two years ago.

A BCCOS investigation into the illegal killing of two bighorn at an East Kootenay mine site in 2016 has resulted in a conviction. A male and a female were convicted of Wildlife Act offences in Fernie Provincial Court on October 23.

A total of $14,375 in fines was ordered. The sheep and two rifles were forfeited and five-year hunting prohibition was also assigned.
