Donation provides life saving equipment
A new Jaws of Life apparatus will soon be arriving in the South Country thanks to the generous support of TC Energy.
“We can’t thank TC Energy enough for their grant,” said Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Service Chief Dave Boreen. “In small, rural communities having access to life-saving equipment is critical, but raising funds can be challenging due to our sparse population. Receiving this grant allows us to upgrade our equipment and add a vital tool to our arsenal.”
In total, TC Energy has provided $10,500 in funding through its Build Strong program for the new Jaws of Life, which is on order and expected to arrive in the community at the end of the month.
The new tool will replace the department’s current Combi-Tool, a cutter/spreader that is nine years past industry best practice, damaged and in need of significant repair.
“The Jaws of Life will provide our firefighters with a safer, more efficient tool to provide rescue services to those in need when every second counts,” added Boreen.
Jaws of Life are a type of tool used by emergency responders to pry open vehicles involved in accidents when a victim may be trapped.
