Elk Valley RCMP involved in real ‘hoo-dun-it’
Elk Valley RCMP attended a hit and run, which occurred in the early evening hours of February 2, and police are still looking to identify the airborne suspect.
An Elk Valley RCMP officer was flagged down by a driver on the Fairy Creek Bridge in Fernie. The driver was in a state of panic, after having struck an animal which had flown across the bridge then struck their vehicle. The driver was concerned it was injured.
Police located an owl which had attempted to fly off, but then remained on scene – likely due to being stunned by the collision, said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
The officer prepared to apprehend the bird of prey (with the intent of contacting an animal rescue to help the animal out) but the owl had other ideas and flew off.
“No word on whether this was Errol or some other Great Horned Owl belonging to a wizard. Police are still trying to make contact with the Weasley family as of writing. Further reports indicate Hedwig was not willing to answer questions either,” related S/Sgt. Nielsen.
“Our file is, thankfully, concluded pending identification of the suspect. (PS – we know Errol is a Great Grey Owl – we love Harry Potter stories too – it just tied in better with this story to say he’s a GHO, so please forgive our faux pas),” he explained.
