Elk Valley RCMP Report

Elk Valley RCMP responded to 360 calls for service between April 22 and May 25.
RCMP responded to the following calls: seven Animal Calls; four Assaults; one Assault with a Weapon; two Uttering Threats Against Person; eight Breach of Peace; three Breach of Bail Violations; five Cause a Disturbance; 15 Collisions; one Harassing Communication; three Fraud; 16 Well Being Checks; 12 Mischiefs; 32 Suspicious Persons/vehicles/occurrences; four Theft Under $5,000; two Theft Over $5,000; two Theft of Auto Over $5,000; one Criminal Harassment; one Trafficking – Methamphetamine; one Possession of Methamphetamine; one Break & Enter to Business; two Possession of Stolen Property; one Firearms (unsafe storage); two Weapon-Possession; one Counterfeit Currency; and one Missing Person (located).
Two impaired drivers were intercepted by the Elk Valley RCMP resulting in the following; one 90-Day Driving Prohibitions plus 30-day vehicle impoundment; and one three-Day (Warn) Immediate Roadside Prohibition.
Guns seized and man arrested after woman threatened with gun
On May 2, RCMP responded to a female being threatened with a gun in Fernie. RCMP attended to a residence and made contact with the occupants. Numerous guns were seized from the residence. A male was arrested without incident outside his home. He is facing criminal charges related to firearms and has since been released from custody by way of undertaking, with a court date in July. There was no risk to public safety during this altercation.
Late night visitor to Fernie RCMP station
On May 17, Elk Valley RCMP received a report of a suspicious male trying to sneak into a police vehicle at the Fernie RCMP station (pictured). A female who happened to be walking by at the time, was approached by the same male inquiring about drugs and a ride to the 7-11, in Fernie. The female immediately contacted the RCMP and provided excellent descriptors of the male who was readily identified and located.
Stolen vehicle recovered as investigation continues
On May 17, Elk Valley RCMP received a report of a stolen 2018 Ford F-150 pickup which was stolen out of a driveway in Sparwood. With the assistance of Ford Syn App, the vehicle was located a short time later, near Elkford.
RCMP Forensic Identification Services subsequently examined the vehicle and the investigation continues.

$6,000 to $7,000 in items stolen from vehicle
On May 24, a Fernie resident reported to Elk Valley RCMP that he had numerous personal/business items stolen from his vehicle while it was parked on the street. Approximately $6,000 to $7,000 worth of plumbing and heating tools; fishing gear; and specialized computer equipment was stolen.

Lock it or Lose it
Nighttime thieves are keeping the Mounties in the Elk Valley areas busy with an increase in theft from vehicles. People are once again being reminded to lock your vehicles and do not leave personal/business items in your vehicles.
