26 Elkford residents who answer the call

There are only 26 members in Elkford Search & Rescue; 26 people our community relies on when things go wrong, and every one of them is an unpaid volunteer.

They’re mine workers, office staff, first responders, postal workers, parents, grandparents, and retirees. They’re your neighbours, your coworkers, and your friends. When the call comes in they go, no matter the hour.

So far in 2026 they have given over 550 hours of their time. Time away from family dinners, holidays, the people they love, and many sleepless hours. Our members show up in the worst of conditions, because they know the person they are helping is having an even worse day.

This year, three of our members have dedicated 30 years to this team with another three who have reached five years. Years of answering the call and putting others first.

All 26 people are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We don’t thank them enough, but we should!

Happy volunteer week to our incredible members past and present. You make a difference when it matters most!

If you have the privilege of knowing a member, take a moment to thank them. Our backcountry is a little bit better because they are the ones answering the call.

PS: Special shout out to the families and friends who stand behind them when the call comes, thank you.

Happy Volunteer Week Team!
