Elkford breaks ground for new municipal office

The District of Elkford yesterday (May 24) officially broke ground to mark the start of construction for its new municipal office.

The building is expected to open in early 2019, replacing the current office that was built in 1972.

Mayor Dean McKerracher opened the event by providing a brief overview of the project and acknowledged the efforts and contributions made to bring the project to its current stage. He shared the sense of pride felt by council and emphasized the importance of the new building to the collective operation of the District.

“We as council are proud to move forward with this project. As a vital facility for the district, the building will be a warm, welcoming place for all citizens. It will play a key role in the growth of our community and will serve our residents for many years,” proudly noted Mayor McKerracher.

The Mayor called upon Hans te Stroete, Vice President and General Manager of Scott Builders Inc., to offer a few words. Mr. Te Stroete expressed the organization’s excitement to be involved in a project that is important to Mayor, council, employees and citizens of the District of Elkford.

He added that his entire team is looking forward to working in Elkford and getting to know the community.

The design of the $2.5 million facility emphasizes energy efficiency and sustainability and aligns with Elkford’s alpine character, all guiding principles anchored in Elkford’s Official Community Plan. The new building will contribute to the vibrant, mixed-use vision for Elkford’s core and will help create a lively public gathering space by connecting other key public areas and facilities.

The District of Elkford looks forward to opening the doors and welcoming the public in the new year. The building will be a welcome addition to the community and will enhance service to Elkford’s residents well into the future.
