Elkford Councillor Joe Zarowny has passed away

The District of Elkford Mayor, councillors and administration are saddened to announce the passing of Councillor Joe Zarowny last night at the age of 79.

Joe was a three-term councillor who was first elected to Elkford council in 2009. He was an active and devoted member of council.

During his tenure, he passionately represented Elkford and constantly advocated for the betterment of the community. In addition to being a strong voice on seniors’ initiatives, Joe served on the Urban Wildlife Management Advisory Committee. Councillor Zarowny’s contributions, dedication and service were beyond measure.

Mayor Dean McKerracher expressed his profound sadness, noting, “we are privileged to have known and worked with Joe, and we will miss him dearly. Our hearts go out to Joe’s wife, Penny, and his family during this sorrowful time.”

The flags at the Elkford Municipal Office and Fire Hall have been lowered in recognition and honour of Joe.
