Elkford to have first new mayor in 17 years

It’s going to be strange attending a District of Elkford council meeting following the October 15 municipal election and not see Dean McKerracher wielding the mayor’s gavel.

The five-term mayor is not running for office again, meaning the district will have a new mayor. And it will be either current councillors Mandy McGregor or Steve Fairbairn sitting between six newly elected councillors.

Elkford voters will also have seven council candidates from which to select six councillors.

Running for council are two incumbents, Len Gostick and Duncan McDonald, along with Shawna Bryant, Tathlina Lovlin, Paul McGinnis, Jason Meldrum and Bert Schalekamp.

Sarah Madsen is the District of Elkford & Electoral Area 3 of School District No. 5 candidate.
