Elkford wins second straight Kootenay Championship

The Elkford Secondary School (ESS) Senior Girls’ Volleyball Team consists of 11 girls in grades 9 through 12. The girls are fortunate to be coached by three dedicated coaches, Dustin Murray, Erick Canlas and Jessica Bohn.

After a successful school season the team headed to the Kootenay Championship held in Sparwood on November 16 and 17.

The ESS Senior Celtics played well and came home as the Kootenay Champions! The Celtics have qualified to go to the Girls ‘A’ Volleyball Provincials, which will be held this year in Nanaimo from November 28 – December 1.

Sparwood Secondary School finished second overall and Fernie Secondary School (pictured below) took third to round out the Elk Valley sweep of the tourney. All three teams are off to the provincials.

This is the second year in a row that the Elkford Senior Girls has won the Kootenay Championship.

Last year the team placed fourth at provincials. This is a great accomplishment for our school and our community. Twenty teams from across the province will be competing for the provincial championship.

Going into provincials, the Elkford Secondary team is ranked third in the province.

The team would like to thank their sponsors, the community, Elkford Secondary and all of their fans for the support they’ve received! Your support is truly appreciated!
